Marilyn White Lowe was an innovator in music education. After learning about her passing on 9/16/22, Krista Jadro and Kathryn Brunner take a moment to honor her legacy by remembering her as their teacher, mentor and friend. Her life is to be celebrated!
A statement from Marilyn's family on 9/16/2022:
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn White Lowe, founder and author of Music Moves for Piano.
Marilyn dedicated the last 30 years of her life to music learning theory and the creation of materials to help teach musicianship at the piano. Early on, most time was spent authoring, adapting and publishing a 25 book series based on her own teaching experiences and Music Learning Theory from Edwin Gordon.
The last decade was spent coaching teachers how to use, adapt and extend this work. She did all this while continuing to do what she loved, teaching in her own studio. She helped curate a global network of music educators that continue her passion by passing her whole musician approach onto future generations of not only piano students, but other music educators as well.
In the most recent years, she worked tirelessly to establish the momentum required to carry these ideas and methods beyond her own lifetime. She was extremely proud and grateful for all the teachers, friends and colleagues in her life. It was her final wish that they continue to innovate, motivate and encourage each other in the pursuit of creating lifelong musicians.
We stand together in offering continued service and support to all.
